The Phasor KK3-8.5 is a keel-cooled marine diesel generator for vessels requiring 8.5 kW of 120/240V single-phase 60Hz AC power. It uses a Kubota D1005-E4BG three-cylinder diesel engine at 1,800 RPM and a direct-coupled brushless generator with solid-state voltage regulation. This open-frame model is intended for vessels with a correctly engineered closed-loop keel-cooling, grid-cooling, or skin-cooling circuit.
Unlike a standard heat-exchanger generator, the KK3-8.5 rejects heat through the vessel’s external cooling circuit rather than relying on raw water as the primary cooling method. An optional sound enclosure may be available separately. The remote panel provides oil-pressure, coolant-temperature, voltage, and hour-meter monitoring, while automatic shutdown protection responds to low oil pressure and high coolant temperature.
Key Specifications
- Keel-cooled marine diesel generator for 120/240V single-phase 60Hz systems.
- Provides 8.5 kW continuous output at 1,800 RPM.
- Uses a Kubota D1005-E4BG three-cylinder diesel engine with approximately 1,000 cc displacement.
- Provides 120/240V output with approximately 71A at 120V or 35.5A at 240V.
- Uses a direct-coupled brushless generator with solid-state voltage regulation.
- Requires a closed-loop keel-cooling, grid-cooling, or skin-cooling circuit.
- Uses an engine-driven circulation pump for the closed coolant circuit.
- Open-frame generator measures approximately 800 mm by 457 mm by 584 mm and weighs approximately 210 kg.
Electrical Compatibility
This generator is designed for 120/240V single-phase 60Hz distribution. Confirm continuous electrical load, simultaneous demand, power factor, motor-starting surge, and required AC distribution arrangement before selecting an 8.5 kW genset. Include battery chargers, refrigeration, water pumps, air conditioning, watermakers, and galley appliances in the load calculation.
The KK3-8.5 is not a direct replacement for a raw-water heat-exchanger generator unless the vessel already has, or will receive, a correctly sized keel-, grid-, or skin-cooling system. Confirm cooling-circuit capacity and hull-installation requirements before purchase.
Installation Considerations
Mount the open-frame generator on a rigid vibration-isolated foundation with access for filters, oil, coolant, electrical terminals, exhaust, and optional enclosure panels. Install the closed coolant circuit to the vessel’s keel cooler, grid cooler, or skin cooler, and ensure adequate coolant volume, hose routing, expansion capacity, and air bleeding. Add fuel plumbing, exhaust, ventilation, starting battery, AC distribution, grounding, and shore-power transfer isolation. Installation and commissioning should be completed by a qualified marine generator technician.
Before Ordering
Confirm required continuous and surge load within 8.5 kW, 120/240V single-phase 60Hz compatibility, adequate keel-, grid-, or skin-cooling capacity, available installation space, structural support for approximately 210 kg, sound-enclosure requirement, diesel fuel layout, exhaust route, ventilation, starting-battery circuit, AC distribution and transfer-switch design, grounding plan, service access, and qualified installation requirements before purchase.
