Overview

Modernized for both style and function, the Rocket Espresso Appartamento TCA Black is a smart heat exchanger espresso machine that delivers several key updates while meticulously preserving the essential DNA that defines a Rocket Espresso machine. TCA stands for “Temperature Control Adjustment,” referring to the innovative new system of regulation that uses a variable pressurestat controller to precisely adjust pressure and temperature inside the boiler. From the outside, the TCA’s housing represents an elegant evolution of the iconic Appartamento look, featuring more streamlined panels that seamlessly wrap around the machine, a distinctive Rocket logo pennant on the back, and a striking angular E61 brew group.

Features and Benefits

The inclusion of a variable pressurestat delivers the crucial ability to toggle between one of four preset temperature settings: Low (~196F), Medium (~200F), High (~203F), and Very High (~208F). Changing the temperature allows you to optimally extract coffees of different origins and roast levels. This also intelligently affects steaming pressure (between 0.9, 1, 1.1, and 1.2 bar), which is beneficial if you frequently use the machine to froth milk multiple times a day.

Intuitive Temperature Adjustment

To switch between the four different temperature modes, simply lift the brew lever while the machine is off, then flip the power switch while the lever remains raised. You are now in programming mode. Each time you raise and lower the brew lever while in programming mode, the red LED indicator light will flash a corresponding number of times to indicate the current temperature setting. While in programming mode, you can also easily turn on Eco Mode, which powers down the machine to a low-energy standby state after 30 minutes of inactivity, conserving energy.

Enhanced Brewing Flexibility

As a heat exchanger espresso machine, the Appartamento TCA is fully capable of brewing and steaming at the same time. Compared to the original Appartamento, the TCA’s enhanced brew temperature flexibility makes it a superior choice to satisfy a wider range of coffee preferences, allowing for more tailored extractions. The TCA also features an updated, coated copper boiler, which boasts better resistance to tarnishing, ensuring longevity and consistent performance.

Refined Aesthetics and Ergonomics

From the exterior, Rocket has skillfully maintained the iconic circular cutout panels that defined the original Appartamento while introducing several changes to streamline the design. The curved back panel now gracefully matches the contour of the feet, and the new portafilter is elegantly monogrammed with the signature Rocket “R” on its chromed tip. The steam and hot water knobs have been increased in size, showcasing more metal and providing a more substantial feel. The E61 group itself features a bold new angular design, a unique touch unseen on other espresso machines. In a final, thoughtful touch, the cup tray has been reimagined, doing away with the previous plastic cup railing for a cleaner look, and the back of the machine now proudly displays the word “Rocket” in a stylish stripe down the center.

Why You Should Get It

If you’re looking for an undeniably cool espresso machine that consistently delivers barista-quality espresso and perfectly frothed milk, the Rocket Espresso Appartamento TCA Black is an excellent choice. For those who enjoy coffee but aren’t looking to make a full-time hobby out of intricate brewing, this machine threads the needle perfectly. It offers just enough control for consistently good shots and excellent milk steaming, but without overwhelming complexity that might detract from the machine’s inherent charm. It’s a stylish, functional, and user-friendly centerpiece for any coffee lover.
